1841 Census shows Robert (45 years born Suffolk, occupation Ironmonger) and wife Elizabeth (50 years born Suffolk) living in High Street, Lowestoft. John Abbott (25 years, occupation Brazier) also living with them.

1851 Census Index lists Robert (57 years) and Elizabeth (64 years) Precious living in Lowestoft. John and Alexander Abbott also living with them.

Whites Directory of Suffolk 1855 lists a John Precious Ironmonger living in High Street in Lowestoft (must be Robert and got name wrong?)

1861 Census shows living at 47 High Street, Lowestoft, aged 66 years and a widower (wife Elizabeth must have died since 1851). Occupation given as Master Ironmonger employing 1 man and 1 boy. Sons-in-law John Abbott (48 years born Lowestoft occupation Master Brazier) and Alexander Abbott (44 years born Lowestoft occupation Whitesmith) also living at same address. Probably sons of Elizabeth from earlier marriage?

Grandmother Mary (76 years born Eyke, Widow, occupation Annuitant) also staying with them.

1861 Census shows Sarah (12 years born Parham) living in North Green, Parham with parents John (51 years born Tunstall, occupation Farmer of 232 acres, employing 6 men and 2 boys), Sarah (47 years born Hacheston) and brother Jesse (19 years born Parham, occupation Farmer’s Son).

1837online gives marriage in Jan - Mar 1870 in Ipswich (ref: Ipswich 4a 770).

Living with him was an aunt, Susan Dyke (a widow aged 54 years born in Huntingdon, Earith) and her two daughters Florence (aged 18 years born in Northants, Rushden working as a milliner) and Hannah (aged 16 years born in Northants, Wellingborough working as a typist with County Council).

Age given as 24 years and occupation as Fireman, Eastern Counties Railway. Wife given as Charlotte aged 24 years and daughter Harriett E, aged 1 month?

1871 Census shows William (34 years, born Brockdish, occupation Engineman) and wife Charlotte (34 years, born Cambridgeshire) living at 18 Broad Street, East Barnwell, Cambridge with daughter Helena H (10 years, born Cambs) - must be Harriett Eleanor!! - and son William E (6 years, born Cambs). Also shows Edward Chapman (69 years, Widower, occupation Stonemason) living with them (described as Boarder). WHERE IS MARY?

1881 Census shows William (44 years, occupation Railway Engine Driver) and Charlotte (44 years) still living at 18 Broad Street with son William E (16 years, occupation Railway Telegraph Clerk) and daughter Mary C (17 years).

1891 Census shows William (54 years, Widower, occupation Railway Engine Driver) living in Cemetery Road, Mildenhall, Suffolk with daughter Mary C (26 years).

1901 Census shows William (65 years, occupation Railway Engine Driver) still living in Cemetery Road, Mildenhall with Harriett (49 years, described as wife). This is probably daughter Harriett Eleanor with relationship and age wrongly transcribed? TO BE CHECKED.

Probably the William Precious shown in FreeBMD as died aged 73 years in Mildenhall RD, Suffolk in 2nd Q 1909 (ref: Mildenhall 4b 473).
